Tragedy often seems to strike far too often in a major city like Chicago and its surrounding metropolitan areas. Some people will likely just chalk this up to the price we pay to live in the third-largest city in America. However, the reality is that many so-called "accidents" can actually be attributed to the negligent or reckless actions of one individual. That appears to be the case in a recent fatal truck accident that occurred in the Gage Park neighborhood in Chicago.
According to the reports, on March 5 a 14-year-old boy who was just getting ready to cross the street was struck and killed by a semi-truck. It appears that the driver of the semi-truck was making a right-hand turn off of 51st Street. To make matters worse, the driver of the semi-truck did not stop after the deadly collision, although it appears from the early reports that the driver simply did not know that his large vehicle had struck anyone. Fortunately, the semi-truck was stopped by law enforcement officials shortly after the incident occurred and was taken into custody.
The driver, in the initial stages of the investigation, has reportedly been cited for failure to yield. However, the reports indicate that the investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials apparently have some surveillance video footage to review. But, at this time, it appears that the driver of the semi-truck and his negligent behavior is at fault for this deadly pedestrian accident.
These types of incidents can change a family forever. In the aftermath of this recent incident, the 14-year-old victim's family must face the tragedy and attempt to reconcile life without this young man as a part of it. The boy's family likely has legal options to explore as they attempt to move forward.
