Illinois car accidents result in deaths of two children

A recent multi-car crash in Illinois involving a tractor-trailer cost the lives of two children and caused grievous harm to a third child.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. on August 7, 2016. A tractor-trailer was traveling through a construction zone between Atlanta and McLean, Illinois, when it struck a van. This crash caused the van to strike an SUV, a pickup truck and two other cars on the roadway.

Two children who were riding in the van, ages 2 and 4, were pronounced dead at the accident scene, according to Illinois State Police. A third child was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment but remains in critical condition. There was extensive property damage to most of the vehicles involved in the accident, and one other person was airlifted to a local hospital. Criminal charges against the driver of the semi are currently pending.
